UK ISP

Moving house recently and we have been reminded how some companies can do so well in some things but really just miss the point in others.

For a couple of years, we have been using Pipex as our broadband provider. There was no installation fee, no join up fee and we could use an ADSL modem that was given us free by a friend. We were connected ahead of schedule. Then they upgraded our speed from 512K to 2M free of charge and continued to provide an uncapped, unmetered service. Beuno!

And then we moved ...

For some reason, Pipex were unable to move our account to the new address, even though we had the phone number moved. I had to cancel the account and start a new one. Anyone want to write in and explain just why that is?

In any case, we are sticking with Pipex for the moment but we are keeping tabs on a number of other providers whom we may well switch to if the high level of customer service that they had provided appears to have wondered off.

In no order (all are uncapped and allow for 2MB download speed) -
Homechoice includes digital TV and an uncapped service (which they don't charge for but reserve the right to do so
NewNet OK this is capped but it is at 25GB with isn't too bad. It also provides a static IP as standard if you are looking for one
Tiscali Allow for referral fees (but I have heard bad things about them from users)
FastSurf Seems to be equal with Pipex though it is a shade more expensive but only a minimum 1 month contract

Halo 3: more minus than plus?

I still remain a firm fan of UT in all it's flavours but I did spend three hours on Halo 3 at the weekend: This was on the co-op campaign with a friend who has already completed once. In those three hours, we managed (with me first-timing Halo 3 - and only experience with the demo of the original Halo prior) to get someway into mission 6 (of 9). It looks gorgeous, sounds amazing, and surprising slow. Anyone jumping floats in the air for several seconds, and there's no dodging. Games of 2017 - what I've actually played

Okay so this one is a little late ... I've neglected this blog throughout 2018 but here is at last the list for games played through 2017. It follows on from the 2016 list (at this link ) and leads into the 2018 list (posted here). This years gaming total is higher at 150 total games played. There were only 12 completions but another 19 games that have at least story completion. There were nine demo's - again which I'm couting as separate to full games as progress in the demo isn't transferred to the main game. Rare replay has 30 games of which I tried each one once, and Tales From the Borderland I've separated out into five games (of which three episodes I played in 2017) and these I think contribute to a massive increase from 2016, alongside the 26 games for the Cancer Research marathon. Towers of synchronicity

Funny how that synchronicity things works. Some time back, I'm left with half an hour to kill and wander into a Forbidden Planet - it was that or a coffee and I was waiting to go for coffee somewhere else so ... While browsing the book shelves, one title reaches out. Author didn't ring a bell but I'd recently read a couple of books of compiled columns and a quick flick through suggested I'd enjoy it.
